Alion Science and Technology

The IIT Research Institute (IITRI) was purchased by its employees and became Alion Science and Technology. The entire company was re-branded, including its external website, www.alionscience.com. Throughout each deliverable, we coordinated with Alion's internal Corporate Communications and Information Technology departments to ensure a smooth translation of the marketing vision to technical execution.

We evaluated the existing IITRI site, along with their new marketing objectives, analyzed their web traffic statistics, assessed usability issues, evaluated their "rogue department websites", and reorganized the site's content and structure to work for the new company.

In designing the structure of the site, we implemented the modular code applications we had written previously, and programmed the new code to follow their newly implemented FuseBox methodology. We also structured the content to be SQL database-driven and implemented an online content administration system.

We designed the user interface to match their logo and colors for the new company brand. We also selected and implemented the usability standards that worked best for their content and audience.  The site's user interface is fluid to accommodate multiple browser sizes and uses W3C-compliant, minimal JavaScript ColdFusion code so their military-based clients can view the site perfectly.

To rollout the new brand internally, we designed Alion's marketing intranet to provide easy access to branding materials for all Alion employees. While their CAE department programmed their online business card ordering process, we designed the graphical user interface for added usability. We also included the promotional catalog shopping cart and online content administration applications. Then we completed the remaining content in a style that would encourage employees to use this site as their main marketing resource. Throughout the employee buyout process, potential owners were kept up-to-date through the Ownership Edge enewsletter.

Alion held a banquet at the Army/Navy Club in Washington, D.C,. the Alion brand to 200 of its clients. A 4:15 minute video was designed to reassure their clients that they are the same dependable company and to remind them of their vast capabilities. We produced the entire video including media gathering, voice talent and music selection, Flash animation sequences, video editing, and VHS/DVD delivery. We also turned this project around in less than two weeks.
